Day 27 (Towaoc, CO – Cortez, CO)

Today may have been my best day so far. If not, it’s definitely in the top 5. My legs felt so fresh so clean, and every step felt effortless.

Midway through the day my surroundings transitioned from dry desert to vast green fields. It was refreshing after running through a state that mostly consisted of the former.

We stopped for lunch at a casino restaurant that was surprisingly very good. I had a chicken fried steak sandwich on Texas toast with a side of mashed potatoes and gravy. On the next few runs afterwards I could still taste that meal every time I burped, and it was just as delicious.

Before my last run of the day we stopped at the Walmart in Cortez to pick up some supplies. Right away I saw a familiar face. It was Dan Field, a former runner at Edinboro University. I knew he was living in the area and we’d planned on meeting up to run, but it was completely random running into him there.

My last run was just an easy 2 miler which was a nice way to finish the day. The sun was going down and the temperature began to drop, making for a very pleasant run.

Looking at myself in the mirror tonight I realized that I’m losing a significant amount of weight. I’m eating as much as I can every meal, but it’s still hard to keep the pounds on. I’m almost at the level of Jared Leto in ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ and on a fast track to Christian Bale in ‘The Machinist’.

Hopefully I can start to eat enough that I can get to Christian Bale in ‘The Dark Knight’ level without overdoing it and ending up like Christian Bale in ‘American Hustle’. Man, that guy is all over the map with his weight.

Anyways, I’m loving Colorado so far and looking forward to seeing more of what this great state has to offer. Goodnight everyone!
